Azalea bush

Most of the winter my azela stayed green, but after a significant snowfall and freeze it turned completely brown. Is this normal or is it most likely dead?

I doubt that the cold snap killed your azalea but it may have ruined the bloom buds. When the plant shows signs of spring growth, you may need to remove dead branch tips. Give the shrub extra time before you reach for the pruners. If the tips are dead, trim back to a healthy bud or leaves. The inside of a twig, the pith, should be whitish with a thin green ring just under the bark. Dark tan or brown pith means the area is dead and you should cut back a bit further. Good luck and I hope you didn’t lose your spring blooms. Worse case scenario is that the shrub dies back close to the ground but the roots will survive and push up a new plant.
