Azalea Care

I have two azalea plants that I keep hoping will grow stronger and actually bloom. They are Northern Lites, which are supposed to be hardy in Minnesota. I am told that putting pine needles on them is all the fertilizer they really need. Stupid question, but since I have lots of pine trees (most with short needles, so I don’t get lots of needle droppings), can I cut boughs off of the trees and put these around the plants or do they have to be dead needles? I know they will die eventually when cut.

It is not a stupid question at all. You can place pine boughs around the plant. That will work fine.
