Q.Avocado Plant Leaves Getting Black Tips

Zone London | w1ll1am1 added on May 1, 2021 | Answered

Hi, I have been growing this avocado plant for around a year and it has started developing black tips on the leaves. It started with one leaf and now it is spreading to the others. Does anyone know what causes this? I have changed the soil to be more free draining, what else can I do to stop this? Thanks in advance!

I think that this is a case of too much nutrients. I would stay away from high nitrogen soil mixes, and garden soils. It seems to be ready to go into a slightly larger container than it was in, so make sure that it is no more than an inch larger on all sides.

My avocado and citrus trees get the same treatment. It is about 1/3 compost, and 3/4 organic potting soil. When you do feed, just add compost as a topdress, or use a slow release fertilizer labeled "all purpose". Citrus mixes will be appropriate, should you want to choose something pre-bagged.
