Gardening Know How Questions & Answers - https://questions.gardeningknowhow.comWhile supporting a heavy, leaning over young tree with a 2 x 4, the bark was scraped away, approximately 40% of the bark in a 5-inch long area. Can I use roofing tar to paste over the wound? Your web site says to let it air dry. Is that correct? I have always covered the torn bark with a tar like substance?

Do not tar over the wound. This can trap bacteria and fungus in the wound, which will lead to rot. You should let it air dry.
