Astilbe Amethyst Roots

I’ve never dealt with roots before. I picked two roots up at the store today and I have no idea how to plant them or at what time of year. I’m planning on planting them in my window well, but will they die from the lack of sun? I also bought five Lily of the Valley roots to plant in my window well with it. Do they “play nice” with each other?
