Asparagus

Question

This is my first year to harvest my asparagus and I’ve been told to not cut the skinny ones and allow them to fern. Then I was told to cut them all or it can get out of hand. Please clear this up. And after the harvesting season, do I need to allow it all to fern or do I need to trim them?
