Asparagus

My asparagus plants have just come through their first winter (I planted from roots). I need to relocate them. They are currently 5 feet high. I don’t have a problem moving them, but my question is about cutting them down. I know they have at least another year to “mature”, so should I leave them standing tall this coming winter, or cut them down to 2 inches? Thank you for your time. Shar

You can cut them back in the fall. The foliage should not be cut till after it turns yellow, but once it turns yellow, it is dead and is of no further use to the plant so can be cut back, even if the plant is young.
