asparagus

Hi ! 🙂 We have a large asparagus field . My Husband planted one year old crowns back in 2003. He said that they’re Jersey Knights ( Spelling ) . He has always told me not to pick the smaller asparagus because they’re the females . I’ve noticed that it we leave those to go to seed early on in the season , it doesn’t seem like we get anymore out of that particular crown? We live in Central Maine , our asparagus starts coming the first part of May , and we usually pick for about 6 weeks. Do you recommend that we don’t pick the asparagus that is really small in diameter ? Thank you for any help! 🙂

With a well established bed, I would not worry about leaving all the female Asparagus.
