Asian Pear

I have a couple of questions:

My Asian Pear tree is about five years old, although it does not get full sun all day, it does get sun from about 11:00 am until about 3:30 pm and, unlike most fruit trees, I have seen its branches grow upright. Is this normal?
The harvest of pears seems to be on an every other year scheduled, one year we got almost 40 pounds of fruit and this year we got about a dozen pears.

The biggest problem started a few years ago. The pears are not round but somewhat elongated and are lumpy and pitted (see pictures). Is this from insects or some kind of disease?

Disease or pests can certainly cause deformed pears.
Pear Trees do have a tendency to grow upright limbs, this is why pruning is important to keep the tree open.

You will need to inspect the tree for any signs of these issues.

Pruning of a Pear Tree should be done in late winter.
