Are Peppermint Plants Annuals or Perennials

Will peppermint plant go dormant during winter and return in the spring, or do they have to be replanted every spring after the snow melts and the ground warms up?

They are perennials and with good care will return year after year, though many people prefer to grow them in containers to alleviate their spreading tendencies. Here is more information for growing this herb:
