I couldn’t find solid information that Esperanza is poisonous. A plant that is toxic can cause anything from nausea to life-threatening illness to rash. It is all labeled toxicity. The lack of firm information leads me to believe there just haven’t been documented illness from Esperanza. https://www.wildflower.org/expert/show.php?id=2524 [1].
Here is an article on Esperanza from Arizona State Univ; there is no mention of toxicity. http://www.public.asu.edu/~camartin/plants/Plant%20html%20files/tecomastans.html [2]
This is a list of plants that are toxic to dogs from ASPCA. They have a separate list for cats. https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/dogs-plant-list [3]
