Crape myrtles are normally fast growing trees/shrubs. You might do a soil sample to see if something is amiss there. They do need well-draining soil in full sun for the best performance. They don't need a lot of fertilization but prefer a soil pH of 5 to 6.5. Here are more growing tips:
