Arborvitae Tan/Browning

Hello I have 8 arborvitae trees which are planted on pots. 7 are thriving. I lost one last fall. I realized that the large barrel I planted it in did not have proper drainage. 1 one inch hole. One of my tries is exhibiting the same changes, it’s tanning is irregular, and then it’s starting to turn brown. I’ve removed it from the pot and found again, only 1 small hole. I’ve drilled 8 small holes at the bottom, and I’m letting my arborvitae sit out under the sun dry some of that very wet soil. Can you recommend anything else? This is the 3rd spring I’ve had them and they were doing fine until this started last month. All help is greatly appreciated

I suggest drilling holes in all of the pots if you have not. Also, the roots should not be allowed to dry out when you remove them from the pots. You may have some winter desiccation going on. Be sure they are mulched well in the pots and are watered regularly through the winter. You may want to wrap them in burlap for the winter. These articles should help:
