Apricot Tree

My friends have an apricot tree here in Charlotte, NC. Last year the tree was full of young fruit and in a matter of three or four days, all the fruit was gone. Not on the ground, just gone. They thought it may be birds or squirrels. Any suggestions on this disappearance?

Yes, birds likely feasted on them but it could also be from deer as well.
