Apple Tree Has Few Leave, Is It Alive?

I bought an Apple tree plant (Gala variety) from Costco. Looks like it might have been there a while, not sure. But it has very few leaves in the lower branches (see pic). Can’t tell if tree is dying, diseased or just needs some care after planting in the ground & it will bear plenty of leaves. Any helpful info is much appreciated

Unfortunately, your photo did not come through.

Sometimes, even if they are stressed and have been in container for some time, they can be planted and expected to come back normally.
