Not sure about Sevin Dust, but my mom always use to spray water mixed with regular old dish washing detergent (Sunlight, I think, actually) on the affected plants and it killed the aphids.

Sevin should be ok, but we have had good success with neem oil. It has the benefit of not being harmful to beneficial bugs. Here is more info on it:
