Any Ideas For An English Cottage Garden Look (colorful, Wildflower-look) That Would Be Both Low Maintenance And Drought Resistent

(far Northern CA)? I am a novice at gardening; just bought a home on a small lot. I want to devote most of my gardening time to a small vegetable garden in the back, but would love a colorful front yard that would attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds,but doesn’t require much watering. The front gets afternoon sun. Our area is increasingly impacted by severe drought conditions. Thank you!
