Ants in My Rubber Tree Houseplant

I have tiny black ants in my rubber tree houseplant. 1. How do I get the out and 2. How do I keep them out? I have had this plant about 4 years and it is beautiful and I would hate to have it die. Please help!!

The plant is likely suffering from a pest of some type, from mites to aphids, which secret sticky honeydew that attracts ants. You can get rid of them by treating your plant with neem oil. One the pest is gone, the ants will follow. Here is more info on neem oil:
