Angel Wing Begonias

We acquied the plant in the photo about 1993 when we lived in Colorado and did not know what it was. We kept it in a room with bright indirect light and my wife cared for it along with her other plants. It eventually grew to over seven feet in height and was always very leafy. We were suprised when it bloomed as seen in the photo. We moved to Central Texas, about 40 miles south of Waco near Fort Hood. After cutting the plant back to about four feet, I put the pot in the back of our pickup truck and drove it to our new house. Naturally the leaves all blew off but the plant didn’t die. We put in the bay window of our kitchen dining area which looks out over a covered patio. The plant kept growing in height and grew new leaves but never bushed out as it did in Colorado or bloomed again. My wife bought another plant to put in that space so we put the begonia out on the now-screened in patio. It’s almost touchng the screen on the east side of the house and seems to be growing new leaves. I wanted to plant in the front yard where I thought it would bloom and enhance our yard, but the various web sites seem to discourage this. Your thoughts about this? Thanks for your help.

You are right outside of the zone that they will thrive in. If you do decide to plant these outside, you will want to dig them up and store them for the winter.
