Angel trumpet

I live in zone 9A in Texas. I planted an angel trumpet two years ago. The second year it was gorgeous, filled with blooms, and was almost 7 feet tall. Over this past winter, we had one day of freezing temperatures. I trimmed the plant back to about 6 inches above the ground and covered it with mulch. The plant came back this spring, but there are only a few large leaves and the rest are very small, 2 to 3 inches. They are clustered tightly around the middle of the plant. The plant is maybe 3 feet tall and obviously no blooms. What is wrong with it? Will it ever return to normal or should I discard it?

Though it likely stressed the plant to be cut back, it looks like you may have a pest issue and or some nutrient issues.
It will take some closer examination of your plant leaves and you can check your fertilizer application rates with with links below.
