Anacacho orchid tree

Our tree died back this summer due to our abundant rainy days, followed by harsh heat for prolonged periods of time. My tree has been in the ground for 8 yrs. and is a mature growth of about 12 ft. tall. I’m in the process of cutting back the tips of the tree. I’ve scratched the trunk and it is still very green. Will my tree come back out this fall or will it wait until next spring? Should I fertilize and, if so, with what? We live about 40 min. from the Gulf Coast.

The tree will probably start growing back soon after you trim it this fall. Anacacho Orchid Tree is a nitrogen-fixing plant (meaning it has bacteria in its roots that help it obtain nitrogen from the air), and it does not typically need fertilizer.
