Q.An Ivy Emergency!

Zone 21701 | Anonymous added on June 14, 2024 | Answered

Hello Gardening Know How, I have an ivy plant growing on the side of my house. It is over 20ft high, and has multiple branches. A contractor mistakenly cut it off at ground level, and the leaves are drooping. I put the three stems in a bucket of water. Is there any way to re-plant it?  I would hate to lose such a large and attractive plant! Thank you

The stems will probably root in the bucket of water. Make sure there are no leaves below the water line and change the water every couple of days. You also can root them in sandy soil according to the instructions below. These plants grow fast and they will regrow quickly where the contractor cut them off.
