Q.Amount of Soil

Anonymous added on February 25, 2014 | Answered

I am planning to have a 48″ x 48″ raised garden in my backyard. It will be about 7″ deep according to the manufacture of the garden. Can you tell me how much soil would be required for the garden? I’m not sure how much soil comes in the bag. I will also need to know if I can use the same soil for starting indoors.

Gardening materials, such as soil and mulch, are typically sold by the cubic yard. Multiply the length by the width to get the square footage. Multiply this by your depth to get your cubic volume and then divide by 27 to get cubic yards. In this case you will need approx. 50-52 cubic yards of soil.
