Q.Amateur Needs Help Reviving a Neglected Potted Tree

Anonymous added on July 30, 2011 | Answered

I have a neglected potted tree that was left to me by the previous owner of my apartment. I thought it might have been completely dead, but started to water it anyway and little green sprouts haver started to appear on the main trunk in just a couple of weeks. However, the top of the tree still has no new growth and lots of dried up leaves. My question is, do I need to cut off the top to help fascilitate the growth of the new sprouts? My concern is that I’ll lose the shape of the tree, which is quite nice. I’m a total amateur, so your help is much appreciated.
