Amaryllis bulb splitting

Split bulb

My 9 year old huge amaryllis bulb had 4 stems this year with a total of 20 flowers. I have been cutting off side bulbs to increase the main bulb. The main bulb has now split on one side (presumably from pressure) at least 1/2 way into the bulb. What should I do? Can I save it? I live in Toledo Ohio and summer it outside in a shady place – then bring it in around Oct/Nov for Xmas blooming.

Your best bet is to wait until the bulb is dormant and then attempt to split or chip the bulb.
