When you cut a baby amaryllis away from the mother does it need to have some roots to survive when replanted?

It is best to gather roots with the new split, but as long as the bottom is not damaged it can grow roots just fine. Here is an article for more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/amaryllis-hippeastrum/amaryllis-bulbs-propagation.htm
