Am Planting Moss Using Buttermilk Method, Some Places Have White Mold. Will It Hurt The Moss? Or Will It Still Grow?

I have an area of deep shade in my yard where nothing grows except an occasional weed. I want to get moss started there. the ground is just bare dirt, I scooped up some moss in the woods and turn it into a milkshake using whole buttermilk. I sprinkle it around from a large watering can with extra large holes. I do have some really small patches of moss growing naturally in the yard. I mist it with water at least once a day. now some places have white mold, looks like fur on the ground. will the moss still grow after mold? Am covering about 500 sq ft and am well over half done, a LOT of work.

Unfortunately, your photos did not come through. I am unable to assess the situation.

Some white molds are necessary for healthy soils, while others can be harmful to plants. In most cases, you would need a microscope to say which it is. Generally, if you see healthy moss growing in places, then it is a good sign.

However, should you see signs that say that things aren't going so well, you may try a very dilute peroxide solution. 1 part peroxide to 3 parts water will be on the stronger side, and 1 part peroxide to 10 parts water will be on the weaker side. Anywhere between there will help, so you may want to start dilute and work your way up.

Here are some articles to help you get the moss established:

yes very prompt answer. I have taken the advice given and sprayed with peroxide at 1 part water to 6 parts peroxide mixture. now I just wait to see results. I am optimistic and keep misting daily. its so hot and breezy that I misted 3 times today.
