Am I in trouble with my Rose of Sharon for next year?

Two of my Rose of Sharon trees did not produce a lot of leaves or any flowers. The leaves that they did produce look very healthy, but it didn’t cover the whole tree. I had great years with these trees except for this year. I’m hoping next year will be better.
