Q.Alstroemeria Over Winter

Zone 07726 | Knitting rozz added on November 13, 2023 | Answered

I have Alstroemeria plants in a large pot on my patio, and this fall I took the pot inside for the winter. What do I do now to keep them from dying before next spring, when I can put them out again?

In Zone 6, indoor care for Alstroemeria involves bringing the plants indoors before the first frost. Allow the foliage to die back naturally, signaling dormancy. During dormancy, reduce watering and place the plants in a cool, dark location. In late winter, initiate growth by gradually increasing light exposure and resuming regular watering. Consider dividing and repotting the rhizomes every few years for optimal health and flowering.
