Alternaria Cankeronet

I have grown tumbling toms last year in baskets and this year. They were so successful last year I decided to grow them again this year, but now all of them are infected with the above Alternaria cankeronet. So how do I cure this, and next year how do I prevent it? Can I use the same baskets with new soil and fertilizer? Also, a lot of the tomatoes have splits down them, so I have to throw them away. Is this because of the disease?

You will need to sterilize the containers if you want to plant tomatoes in them again. This can be done by washing down the container with a bleach solution.

The splits were not from the disease, but likely uneven watering. Here is more information on that:
