Q.purple sprouting broccoli

Zone Morpeth, Northumberland, UK | Nestie added on June 8, 2016 | Answered

I planted out purple sprouting broccoli plants in raised beds but something has eaten their leaves in the last few days! There is no sign of snails/slugs and these are the first things I have planted in my newly built raised beds (over a foot high). I have seen the odd small bird around my allotment though. Is it too late to save these plants? They were only about 5 inches tall before being eaten. If they can be saved, do I need netting over the top? Thanks.

I have checked the plants and cannot see any sign of the insect damage mentioned! Could it possinly be birds?

This is exactly how my garden bed of Kale looked last year!
There are several pests that love to eat Kale.

The link below will help you identify the culprit!
