Albizia trees

Had to laugh at your declarations that deer don’t eat them! My deer absolutely love my three albizia trees and the flowers. I live in SW Washington state. My deer will eat most everything.

I am trying to find out if there is a type of Albizia julibrissin which is inbetween Rosea and Summer Chocolate in terms of leaf color. I have one whose new leaves are bronze, but which turn green (don’t know the flower color because the deer keep eating the buds and surrounding leaves, and we have to start all over again). I have a Summer chocolate that has that chocolate color we know and love (yellow flowers). And my third is Rosea, which has, as far as I can tell but it is quite tall now, leaves that come out green (and stay green), and pink flowers.

As an experienced gardener, I can say that no matter how “deer resistant” anything is… The deer will eat them… It seems you will have to get creative to keep these out of your garden.

LOL — As a very experienced gardener, I surmise that you didn’t read this page of this site:
https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/mimosa/chocolate-mimosa-trees.htm [2] which is what I was commenting on about deer eating albizia foliage. I wasn’t asking anything about how to cope with deer. I cope. I am extremely creative. I found PlantSkydd, which is dried pigs’ blood, years ago and I have very effective fences. I also live at the edge of a national wildlife refuge, so I have plenty of deer. The does bring their offspring to teach them about eating roses, tomatoes, maples, rhododendrons (yes, they do), camellias, etc etc etc. But I cope. I have a degree in plant pathology and botany, am a master gardener (for what that’s worth), a garden club past president, was a fellow in the history of landscape architecture at Dumbarton Oaks, and I’ve been gardening for 71+ years.

What I asked, and what I would still like to know, is about an albizia with leaf color midway between that of Summer Chocolate and Rosea.
