Ajuga

I love my Ajuga and have it out by the road. I have grass growing up in it and want to kill “the grass” NOT the Ajuga. I was told to spray it with buttermilk because of it acidic content, but it’s not working to well. Any help would be great

You can purchase a selective herbicide that targets only the grass. Make sure you read the label carefully and only apply if it says it’s safe for your Ajuga.

There is a product called Grass B Gon, by Ortho. I’m sure other products are available. It is an herbicide that kills grass but not other plants. Being next to the street, car tires and winds will kick up seeds of all sorts. I wonder if a pre-emergent next spring would help. Ajuga spreads mostly by stolons, not seed so a pre-emergent won’t hinder your groundcover.
