Air Plants

I live in Ohio and have found air plants which I grow in my bathroom. This winter I am visiting ST Petersburg, Florida and have noticed something that looks like air plants growing wildly in the local trees. Are these indeed air plants? Can I transplant them back to Ohio and greatly increase the amount of plants at no cost at all?

They appear to be connected to rough spots in the trees or near the leaves. I have pulled a few off and they have not bored down into the tree. What can you tell me about this matter?

You indeed likely saw Florida’s native Bromeliads in trees.

I do want to caution you on removal of these plants, it is often unlawful to remove native plants.
