Q.After you remove rose rosette infected roses?
We definitely have rose rosette on many of our knockout roses. My question is what to do after we remove and destroy the bushes. How soon can we replant? Should we choose something other than roses for that area?
Once you have removed the rosebushes and most of the soils in an 18 inch diameter circular area and 12 to 18 inches deep, go ahead and replant some rosebushes there. I use EKO brand soil mix that has alfalfa meal and good compost mixed in with it for the refill of soils to plant in. If you really liked the Knockouts you can either replant new Knockout rosebushes there, or you might want to try a rosebush named Winnipeg Parks. It is a very nice rosebush and is many times mistaken for a Knockout rosebush, only it is actually hardier and more resistant to the rose rosette disease. You might also want to take a look at the Morden rosebushes for some variations on color. These are all Canadian bred rosebushes and hardy rosebushes. Morden Sunrise is especially nice.
