African violets

The leaves are turning brown on the edges and only on the outer part of the plant. Some of the leaves are turning a light green to pale green. I took those leaves off from the plant and threw them away. Should I have done that? Did I damage the plant?

African Violets are picky about their water. Use distilled water or allow the water to sit out on the counter for 48 hours.
Trim away the stems from the spent flowers.
Give the Violets plenty of filtered light and turn the plants occasionally to give even light to the plants.
