Q.Advice Wanted For This Lilac

This lilac has been growing sideways ever since we moved in to this property. Would you just saw it off at the base and be done with it or would you do something with it? It is awkward the way it is and if it keeps growing sideways it’s going to block a pathway. If it was upright it might be 5’ tall. The ground around here is mostly rocky and hard so it would be very hard to dig out. Sorry the pictures, aren’t great, it’s in an awkward location. I think I just need someone’s permission to cut it down. Thank you.

Yes, pruning the whole shrub down to about 6 inches tall can help solve a number of issues that you are dealing with! This should be done in early spring. Here is an article that will help:
