Advice for planting in newly cleared small field

Hello, I live in Connecticut and have just had some land behind our house cleared. We removed trees and had all the huge vines and brush cleared out. We have a big back yard so do not need any more usable space however, do not want it to grow back to the jungle it was. Looking for advice on anything we could plant there. We could get it mowed once or twice a year to keep down all the weeds but would love to have something there that was nicer to look at than just weeds. Would have loved a small field of grass and wildflowers but thinking they would get choked out by the weeds that I know are looming to wait to grow next year. Any suggestions would be welcome! We have a VERY small budget and cannot afford anymore professionals to do any major work. I have attached a few photos of what it looks like now and one of what it looked like last summer, this summer it was even higher weeds, vines etc. Thank you so much for any help you can provide.

The first thing that comes to mind is clover. It is relatively low-maintenance, the seed is not too spendy and it attracts bees! If you can't remove the existing weeds and grass first, it will take longer to take over, but eventually it should dominate your little field. Don't fertilize it, and try not to have alot of foot traffic on it.
