Adding Gypsum to Clay Soil

How much gypsum is added to clay soil to make it better? My garden is quite heavy clay and is 25′ x 50′. I intend to add coarse builder’s sand and gypsum. . . but, how much of each? I will also be adding tons of compost. Is there anything else that I should add to break up the clay?
