Q.About Lawns

Anonymous added on March 27, 2014 | Answered

We have a dark green ring in our lawn. It has been at least three years since we first noticed it. The first year it wasn’t very big; it was a semi-circle. The second year it was a bigger semi-circle, and this year it is almost a complete circle. We looked under the sod in the second year and there didn’t seem to be any grubs there. Would you have any idea what this might be and how we could get rid of it?

This is commonly referred to as a fairy ring, brought about by fungus. In fact, you may even notice toadstools (mushrooms) growing in the area as well. Even if you are not currently seeing any mushrooms, the following articles should help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/fungus-lichen/mushroom-identification.htm, https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/lawn-care/lgen/eliminate-mushrooms-in-your-lawn.htm, https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/lawn-care/lgen/grass-fungus.htm
