A friend gave me some cuts. Do I need to root them in water or can I plant right away?

He had a big plant; he cut some off and gave them to me to grow. How do I start?

Schefflera cuttings root VERY easily. Place them into some soil and water. They will root within 2 weeks. Just keep them in bright but indirect light and keep the soil SLIGHTLY moist at all times until they show new growth.
