Q.Will a Mesquite Tree die if the leaves fall off?

Zone Zone 7 - Hobbs, NM | Anonymous added on June 7, 2016 | Answered

We’ve received an unusually high amount of rain this spring and I just noticed that most of my mesquite tree’s leaves are turning yellow and falling off in very large amounts. I’ve read that too much water can cause this to happen, but I am very concerned that they will also die from losing too many leaves. Right now about 1/2 the leaves have fallen off, per tree. Should I be concerned or will they survive?

Thank you for your time.
