Tomatoes not turning red

My tomatoes are well formed and look healthy but have not started to turn red. They have been like this for 2 to 3 weeks and show no sign of redness. I need to water every day due to the drought in Michigan. Should I back off to stress them to red or just wait a little longer?

Normally if tomatoes will not ripen, it is an issue with the temperatures and time. While tomatoes need heat to ripen well, it is possible that the excessive temps along with the drought are the likely reason behind the green tomatoes. However, with a little time and patience, they will eventually begin to turn color and you will be able to enjoy them. If your tomatoes are getting quite large and you are afraid they will either die or you simply cannot wait, then you can ripen them yourself.
