6 Year Old Hawthorn

Our hawthorn has beautiful leaves and sprouts along the branches and the trunk, only on the bottom half of it however the top has none , what could cause this

This is a condition known as "Dieback" and is caused by a number of issues. This can be due to several diseases, drought, and many other issues.
