Our rose of Sharon bush is getting yellow leaves and the buds are falling off before opening. Bush is one year old, in 4 to 5 hrs of full sun. Soil is good but not the best.
I'm sorry your Rose of Sharon is showing signs of distress! Usually bud drop can be attributed to too little water.

8 year old rose of sharon hibiscus tree is severely damaged from severe winter here in the east...dead limbs on half of the tree. Also, the trunk of the tree is starting to split. What can I do to save the tree? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You
Really, the best you can do is to reinforce the split with a wrap to keep it from splitting further and remove any dead branches. In cases like this, you just have to give the plant time to heal.

I have had this tree for almost 3 years. It has never bloomed with flowers, just leaves. Is there something I should fertilize with, etc.?
It's important to fertilize you Rose Of Sharon but not over fertilize.
Use an all purpose fertilizer and apply in spring and again in summer.
Over fertilizing can cause drying and browning of the plant and lack of flowers.

I have one rose of Sharon that has green leaves and the other one doesn't. Do some of them start turning green before the other? The one that hasn't turned yet is three yrs. old and the other one is a yr. old.
So you have a plant that isn't leaving out?
Do the branches snap off or bend?
If they snap and break, they have died off.
You can also check the bark for signs of life.
Here are some links with more information.

Last year my Rose of Sharon came out in full bloom beautifully. This year no greenery or anything, just a grey looking tree. You think it's dead?
Bend the branches; do they snap and break off?
If the branches break, this part of the plant has died.
You can also scratch the bark to determine if the shrub is still alive.
If you see green, that is still alive.
Here is a link that explains this test.

Why do I have a vine growing from the branches of my rose of Sharon?
A Rose of Sharon can send out branches that are vine like, similar to runners that can also appear from roots.
You can prune these from your plant.

I am interested in growing a Rose of Sharon. I live in the Northern Rivers area of NSW. The two I particularly like are: 1) Danica Rose of Sharon (Althea) Hibiscus Syriacus "Variegata" 2) Rose of Sharon Hibiscus Syriacus Jeanne D'Arc I have had no luck in sourcing either of these Hibiscus and wondered if you could help? David
You should be able to source bare root plants to be shipped to you.
Do a Google search for the plants.
You can also try Ebay. They can be a good source for plants, that may be more difficult to fine.
