I put mulch around the base of my Hibiscus Rose of Sharon. What other care do I need to do? It was bought this summer. Any help and info is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Happy gardening!
Can a Hibiscus Rose of Sharon be covered before winter or leave it uncovered? We get some harsh winters in Canada, so I want to protect my new Rose of Sharon, as it is a little over 2 feet tall. Please help. Thanks
Hopefully your Rose Of Sharon is planting in an area that is out of harsh wind.
Water the plant up until ground freeze.
Adding a layer of leave mulch will help and you can make a protection circle of burlap.
Snow cover is one of the best insulators.

How should I fertilize and prune my old rose of sharon, when and how much? My rose of sharon grows on the northeast side of my home. I pruned it lightly last early spring and fertilized with osmocote. (We are new to this old house). It grew so much that it appeared to get top-heavy and when it rained, the branches drooped toward the ground so much so that I thought it might uproot. We propped the branches for the duration of the season and now I need help in determining what to do with this bush so I can eliminate the props and provide the proper care to protect this plant. I don't have a picture. Thanks for your help Marcia
You can trim it that way if you would like. It is a good way to rejuvenate the plant. This article can give you some other methods:

I would look for one with a higher phosphorus (middle number), as this would promote healthier and more blooms. You can also use a "bloom booster" fertilizer or add some bone meal to the soil to help add some phosphorus. During winter I noticed the plow had pushed the snow very close to the trunk of our rose of sharon bush. I had a conversation with this man and thought the problem was solved. I was wrong. Now about half of the bush is dead. It pulled out of ground. I would really like to save it. Any help would greatly appreciated.
I would prune away the dead and damaged branches.
Reducing the shrub by 1/3 will help lessen the stress as it recovers.
Loosen the root ball and reset the plant into the ground if possible.
Tamp down the soil to firm up the planting hole.

My White Chiffon is about 4 feet tall and, when blooming, the branches are very weighed down with blossoms. Does it need pruning and, if so, how should I do it? We live in central Michigan. Thank you

When can I prune my rose of sharon shrub? Should I do it now before new buds form or should I wait until the buds have formed and then prune? My rose of sharon is now almost ten feet tall and I want to reduce it down to five feet.
Thank you for sending us your gardening question. Rose of Sharon is actually a variety of hardy hibiscus. Therefore, pruning takes place in spring--specifically anytime from late March through early May, before the leaf buds open. Overgrown shrubs can be pruned back to about three feet in height without risk of injury. Then you should perform annual trimming to to keep its appearance maintained, removing any unsightly or overgrown branches only.
I planted 6 rose of sharon last year. Should I prune them to get them to grow? They are like 3 ft tall or so. Also, will they bloom this year?
