I just planted three red tip photinias. I amended the soil with manure/humus and covered it with hardwood mulch. Also, there is something called Petite Rouge photinia. Is this different from Fraseri photinia-I know it is smaller?
Petite Rouge Photinia is the most compact photinia and is ideal for small spaces or mass plantings. Fraser Photinia typically grows 12-18 feet high and 8-12 feet wide, much bigger variety. What is the best treatment for the fungus on my photinia bushes? We have three bushes planted in a row. Each year, we have the fungus growing on the leaves. We have tried anti-fungal sprays without much luck. Is there anything else to prevent the spread of this?
Treat the plant with neem oil. It is both a fungicide and a pesticide, so it will treat both scenarios. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/pesticides/neem-oil-uses.htm
I have four photinias planted fairly close. The middle two began losing the leaves (which were mottled with dark circles) and it has spread to the other two. I got advice to cut the trees down almost to the ground and then get rid of all the leaves, but did not get advice on what to treat the disease with. Could you help me?
Photinia is very susceptible to the fungus leaf spot, called Entomosporium, that can defoliate photinia plants. Remove and destroy fallen leaves, prune off diseased twigs. Avoid overhead irrigation. Fungicide sprays (copper-based products) are also generally necessary for this disease, beginning from bud break and applied every ten to fourteen days until all foliage has matured. Mature foliage is no longer susceptible to infection. Neem oil can be used as well.
I have red tip photinia plants in 1-gallon pots and I need to know how far apart to plant them to create a hedge.
In general, the space between plants should be one-third to one-half their mature spread. For example, Photinia has a mature spread of about 6 feet, so they should be planted 2 to 3 feet apart to create a hedge.
I'm planning to plant some red-tip photinia in my backyard as a privacy screen but don't know how many plants I need. How many feet should be between each plant?

How often should red tips be watered after being established? Mine have some yellow leaves. They are about 4 years old and are on a drip system. We are in Arizona.
Water when normal rainfall does not provide the preferred 1 inch of moisture (weekly) that most plants prefer.
I have two red tip photinias that I need to move. I've had them two years, and they are 8' tall, not real bushy. What is the best time of year to move them?
While they transplant very easily, yours are somewhat large, so this can make the task a little trickier. The best time to do this would be between the end of October and the beginning of February, during dormancy. Dig the soil from around the plants about 18" from the trunk to about a spades depth. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and deep enough to accommodate each plant. Cut the shrubs back about 1/3 before moving and water well.
