We have three "Red Tips" in our garden here in Coastal South Carolina - two are growing "UP" nicely (now about 8'), the third is apparently happy and healthy, but only about 5' high. All three are in the same area, planted at the same time, same sunlight, same moisture and the three are separated by two small Magnolias. Since they are a privacy screen between backyards, we would prefer a bit more height, but the middle rascal isn't cooperating. Any thoughts?
You may want to do a soil test, though the plants are all generally planted in the same location it is certainly possible for the soil conditions to differ from plant to plant.

What is the perfect time for planting red tip photinia?
I want to plant a red tip in between crepe myrtles. How far apart shall I plant the red tip between each other? I am fencing my property with the shrub in between the crepe myrtles. I want the red tip to look like a fence in between the crepe myrtles. Appreciate your response. Thanks.
I live in Tucson, Arizona. I want to plant my photinia in full sun in center of yard, no shade and plenty of air circulation.
Given that red tip photinia's prefer full sun, this should be fine.

My red tips are about 20 years old. They are also very tall. I want to cut them to about 6 feet. When should I do this?

I live in northwest Ga.
I would check with your big box garden center retailers (such as Lowes), your local mom and pop garden centers as well as on-line retailers.

It's over 12 yrs. old and this year the leaves have brown spots and lots have fallen off. It started a year ago but I really didn't think about it. Now it's looking sad. What can I do? Cut it down (hate to lose it), trim it way back? Live in Hot Springs, Arkansas...zone 7. Thank you for your help! Sandy
It sounds like your plant may be suffering from Photinia Leaf Spot. If that's the case, approach trimming with great care. Check the photo and read the symptoms described in this article, and if they match what you're seeing, then you can try following the steps in the article: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/photinia/photinia-leaf-spot.htm
