It's about three years old and never had a bloom; however, it's growing well and looks healthy - no bugs. What to do to get flowers?

I planted a lilac tree last November. It has plenty of buds but when they turn into leaves, they become dry with holes in them and eventually the leaves die.
Without a photo, it's hard for me to say what is happening but I can help you narrow it down a little. My best guess would be that your lilac has bacterial blight. Barring that, it could be a leaf spot disease or maybe even lilac leaf miners (any signs of insects?). All of these possibilities are discussed in the following article: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/lilac/common-lilac-problems.htm

Why is my purple lilac tree turning white and brown in May? The tree is over 50 years old. I want to preserve the purple and fragrance now in this blooming season. Help.
Did you have a late season cold snap in your area? It may be that the cold snap affected the blooms. If it is only the blossoms that are white and brown, this may very well be the issues. The blooms are far more tender than the leaves, so a cold snap that did not affect the leaves would burn the blossoms.
Is Texas too hot in the summer to grow lilac bushes?

Our white lilacs have a much stronger aroma then our med. to dark purple. What type do we have medium to dark purple lilacs? Do you know what variety? We live in Ballston Spa, NY 12020, which is in gardening zones 4 to 5. The white, medium and dark purple are 8 to 10 feet tall. Thanks for your help ahead of time for the identifying. (sorry but I don't know how to send images.)

Last year my lilacs were a nice lavender color and this year they are so pale they are almost white. Is there something they are lacking nutritionally? The bush and blooms themselves appear healthy, just not nearly as colorful as they were last year.
Your plant was probably grown on a white lilac rootstock, the graft may have died which would revert it back to white. In my research it was also suggested that lilacs allowed to attain large dimensions might exhibit smaller flower sizes and a lessening of color intensity. So, it is recommended to prune your lilac on a regular basis to keep it healthy and looking its best. Here is an article that will assist you with pruning:

A boost of fertilizer would also facilitate better blooms. For more information on fertilizing lilacs, please visit the following link:

I have a lovely lilac bush. Two years ago, the flowers were white and very lovely. Last year it was green and healthy, but had no flowers. This year it is green and healthy and the flowers are opening, but this year they are the traditional lavender. I have never heard of lilacs changing color before. We did have snow on the ground very late this year, but still....Do you know anything about this?
