Part of my holly bush is brown. What should I do?
There are a few things that can cause this, with holly scorch being the most common. This usually happens when the weather changes too quickly. The plant will normally recover from this on its own. Additionally, if you've fertilized lately (especially if it's been hot), this could lead to browning. It's usually recommended that you fertilize holly bushes once a year (preferably in spring) with balanced fertilizer. If fertilizer is the issue, then flush the plant with water (hose down soil around them) to try and neutralize the damage. For either of these probable causes, you can trim out the brown foliage and it should regrow.
It could also be a fungus of some type or insect pests. I would treat the plant with neem oil. This will take care of both fungal problems and any pests that may be affecting your holly bush. Here is more information on neem oil: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/problems/pests/neem-oil-uses.htm
I would like to have holly shrub in small front house foundation. What type in zone 5, how long/wide are the lateral roots, amount of maintenance (pruning, fertilizing, watering), how far away from house is safe for mature shrub planted there and can it be shaped to pyramid shape?

I have two holly bushes that look like the leaves have been stripped from some of the branches. I do not see any bugs or worms on any of the brushes. Each year they start off great and then it looks like they're trying to die because of the stripping of the leaves. Any suggestions? Thank you for your help.
It sounds like the plants have a fungus that is causing leaf drop. There are a few that can do this, but they all can be treated with a fungicide. Treat the plants with a fungicide.
If there is not much else in the way of vegetation in the area, it could also be deer. While this is not a plant of choice for them, they will eat it if they have not many other choices and they will strip the plant of its leaves.
We have a 2 year old Holly Bush that seems to be suffering from the Midwest extreme heat. The leaves are sort of grey and the bush is droopy. We have been watering about 2 times a week but not getting better. Any suggestions to save it? Thank you.
It sounds like it may have powdery mildew. This article should help:

How do you tell males from females?

I want dwarf hollies, as my space is limited. I like the looks of Taylors Rudolph (Ilex vomitora). I need to pair it with whatever sex is compatible so that I get bright green foliage with red berries in a compact bush. Can you suggest varieties that will accomplish this and where to procure them? I live in Zone 6.
From my research the Taylors Rudolph cultivator would not be a good choice for a Zone 6 garden. They are hardy in Zones 7-10
It is best to go to your local garden centers for the best choices for your zone.

What should I do with my small holly bush that has no leaves except on the end of branches? This is mainly in the center of the bush.
This could be due to a few reasons.
Insect or fungus issues.
Sun scorch can cause this.
Lack of sunlight reaching the center of the plants.
Here are some links for you to pinpoint the issue.
